Why You Should Know your Weights

1. The safety of you, your family, and other road users is a paramount consideration when towing. An overweight, poorly loaded, or unstable car and caravan combination can be a ticking time bomb for the unsuspecting, or novice caravanner. It is critical to towing stability to ensure that your tow ball ride height is appropriate for your car and caravan combination. An adjustment of as little as 50mm can make all the difference.
2. You have legal obligations to comply with while towing, or run the potential risk of being fined. Even worse, charged with a offence for non-compliance. 3. In case of an incident or accident, an insurance claim can be denied or reduced should an investigation or police report suggest that your RV, tow vehicle, or caravan was not weight compliant.

What Sets Us Apart?

We utilise a state of the art Dini Argeo 8 scale wireless weight pad systems. This allows us to weigh each wheel of your car and caravan at the same time. Not only is this the most accurate method to weigh your combination, it is also very time efficient. Our equipment is regularly calibrated and certified annually to ensure accuracy. We work with you to identify and understand any issues you may have with car and caravan combination so that you can maximise your towing stability and safety as well as be weight compliant. Nothing is too big or too small. We can weigh most vehicles up to 48 tonne.

How it Works

The proposed site must be:- * hard - bitumen or concrete are fine. Gravel, road base, or grass don't provide the required footing for the scales to operate accurately and are therefor not suitable. * level - that is, front to back and left to right as well. Generally, the road out in front of the house is cambered toward the gutter and not really ideal for weighing. * dry - we are unable to operate scales in areas where there is surface water. So, even though the rain has stopped water pooled on the ground is prohibitive. * long enough - because we weigh both caravan and vehicle together, at the same time, we require the site to also have enough room to drive the car and caravan forward, by up to 3mt, to allow you to get up onto the scales. * free access - there finally needs to be enough room on either side of the caravan and vehicle to gain clear access to position scales safely. Don't worry if you have not got a suitable area at home. We can usually identify a car park or other suitable site close by that will satisfy all our needs. In preparation for your weight study appointment you will need to consider the caravan and vehicle are loaded as if you were going on holidays. So, full tanks of water and fuel, tables, chairs, BBQ's, etc. Have the combination all hitched up ready to go prior to our arrival and if you use a weight distribution hitch have it hitched up as well. This way we can assess if it is properly adjusted and delivering the results you require for towing stability.

What to Expect From Your Weight Study

* We will come to your premises or other agreed suitable location so that the weighing can be performed on level hard ground. * We weigh each wheel of the car and caravan at the same time for greater accuracy. If applicable with and without your weight distribution hitch just to see if it is performing as it should. * We then raise the caravan up off the tow ball and weigh the car again to determine the tow ball download (TBD). Once again for the most accurate results. * We collect measurements on the ride heights of the car (front and rear axles), tow ball, with and without the caravan attached as well as the and caravan (front and back). * We gather the tow vehicle and caravan weight specifications from the hand book and compliance plate to compare against our findings. * This data is then entered into our custom computor programme to check weight compliance and identify any weight distribution issues for both the car and caravan within set parameters. * We then discuss the findings and provide practical advice and solutions on your options to remedy and issues identified.
